Health at Work Presentation
For the past 16 years Matthew Beechey has been immersed in the health industry, eight as a registered nurse and eight as a massage therapist and health educator in the corporate setting. Matthew’s passion is fuelled by his work with severely ill and challenged people who provide continuous inspiration to make the most out of life whilst healthy.
Matthew's punchy, 1.5 hour, “tell-it-how-it-is” sessions have had a noticeable impact on companies. Participants are finding the sessions informative and motivational.
The presentation covers the following topics;
- understanding stress (how stress effects the function of internal organs, cells and muscles)
- the impact of chronic stress on behaviour and energy
- avenues/ways of dealing with stress (exercise, using work breaks effectively, stress supporting foods, counseling etc)
- learning a basic stretch routine to be performed in the workplace and home
- learning a series of core stability exercises (use of deep low back and abdominal muscles) – aimed at prevention of musculo-skeletal complaints
Ergonomic Assessment
An ergonomic assessment involves the evaluation of a workstation, the physical environment, and its interaction with the employee. The assessment involves analysing the need to adjust and make recommendations regarding the employee's workstation including, but not limited to:
- seating
- computer station
- desk
- mouse
- foot rest
- document holder
- head set
- keyboard
The assessment also considers the employee's:
- posture
- work speed
- range of motion
- position at the workstation
- force applied to equipment
- repetition rate required
Instruction is provided on injury prevention techniques, including suitable stretches and suggested rest breaks. All staff will receive a flyer to encourage stretching within the workplace. Posters can be provided to the company upon request. A follow-up review can be conducted to ensure that recommendations are implemented.
An ergonomic assessment report outlines the results of the assessment and is forwarded to the manager.
We assess between 4 – 6 employees per hour (ie. 10-15 minutes per assessment), with a minimum call-out of 3 hours per company.
